Located on the north edge of the Harz mountains, the German town of Thale is the terminus of a branch from Quedlinburg and must have been a busy location during East German days. The weeds testify to the fact that by 2002 the freight traffic had long gone but at least the attractive signal box and array of signals at the station throat survived.
