When the line between Sudbury and Great Shelford was closed in March 1967, the first station building to be demolished, just a few months later, was that at Cavendish. The crossing keeper's house and some of the platform survived, however. The western end of the platform is shown in April 1976, when it was adapting to life as part of a decorative patio in a housing development on the station site.
