As Melksham is the fifth largest town in Wiltshire, it was unfortunate that the town station was closed and largely demolished in 1966. However, it was reopened in 1985, using about a third of one original platform. Services were increased from two per weekday to eight from December 2013. With its load lightened by some twenty passengers, the 18.02 to Swindon (originating at Westbury, and comprising single unit 153.370) sets out towards Chippenham on 10th October. See image 48597
