Hawkshead Ferry

Cumbria's answer to Cal-Mac? Whilst the steamers that operate the full length of Windermere were once owned by the Furness Railway the ferry that crosses the narrows just south of Bowness has never had that connection. The current diesel vessel Mallard is cable operated and can carry up to eighteen cars and one hundred passengers. It is seen here loading at Bowness prior to making the ten minute crossing to the west side on 21st November 2015.
