There are two embankments to the north of Leaderfoot Viaduct, the one on the approach to the viaduct and the other to its west (seen on the left). I don't imagine the Berwickshire was planning a triangular junction with the Waverley Route (and two viaducts) and suspect the second embankment is the remains of a siding associated with the construction of the viaduct. This siding, which would have been approached from the Earlston direction, appears to have gone out of use after construction was finished. The formation is still clearly visible.
