Melrose looking to Tweedbank showing the footpath running by the A6091. Plenty of space here of track relaying! There was a very long siding to the right - often full of carriages - and the approach to the goods yard came off to the left here originally running round the down platform to re-join the line (the connection at the east end was later severed). The hillside to the left was beloved of generations of postcard and railway photographers.
In its initial layout, four tracks passed between the platforms, the two tracks up the middle allowing pass through.
