Kittybrewster [1st]

View of Kittybrewster in 1989. Oil sidings here had been lifted and the site was being redeveloped.

Kittybrewster [1st], on the line down to Waterloo, was close to the camera and Kittybrewster [2nd], on the Denburn Valley line, was beyond on the main line. Before these, the first station here was a terminus called Aberdeen Kittybrewster.

David Spaven comments 'there was a major domestic coal terminal here, served by hopper wagons. I was the Speedlink Coal manager responsible for shifting the coal handling activity down to Guild Street, immediately adjacent to the Russell (ex Freightliner) intermodal terminal, with coal arriving from Yorkshire and South Wales by container. The Baker Atlas for 1988 shows Ellis & McHardy Coal Depot, Lime and LPG Terminals.'
