In 2014, the Stirling to Longannet line was re-laid after only 6 years of use. The original metal sleepers were replaced by concrete versions and the track bed brought up to a higher standard in view of the continuing wear and tear from the heavy coal trains to Longannet power station. At the time, the investment was predicated on the power station remaining in operation until at least 2025, but shortly after the upgrade had been completed, closure was brought forward to March 2016. This photo shows the upgrading work in progress in Clackmannan on 1st March 2014.
