Haymarket Coal Yard

An oil painting of the former Haymarket coal yard hangs in the headquarter offices of the City of Edinburgh Council beside the ECML at Waverley. David Spaven was responsible for this yard when Speedlink Coal Manager for Scotland. Domestic coal arrived in HEA hopper wagons - built at Shildon Works - until the late 1980s, when the coal merchants were re-located to a site adjacent to the closed Freightliner Terminal at Portobello, thereby freeing up 'Haymarket Yards' for office and housing development (and the tram route).
