Goathland [1st]

Old bridge on the North Yorkshire Moors, just over a mile south of Goathland, that once carried the original Whitby and Pickering Railway. This section of the line was abandoned in 1865 in favour of the current route to the east, which avoided the cable-worked Beck Hole incline. The original route crossed the road top right, with the former W&PR gate house still standing. The deviation crosses the same road on a bridge behind the camera see image 28461.
