Whitstable

Whitstable station in Kent, seen from 375 803 from London Victoria to Ramsgate calling on 22nd August 2015. This station was originally called Whitstable & Tankerton and is one of the many that suffered from the old BR regime's mania for shortening station names that had an '&' in them in the 1980s. Cholsey & Moulsford is another which is now just Cholsey while Elstree & Borehamwood became just Elstree for a time but the full name has now been restored. Others, like Highbury & Islington, however, managed to escape unscathed while, ironically, Wroxham station in Norfolk had an '&' added to its name when it became Hoveton & Wroxham!
