At first glance, this may seem to be purely a canal shot. But thanks to my brother, who sent me a slim publication which he found in a charity shop, I know that the stone surfaced area in the foreground was, from 1800 to 1805, a transhipment wharf from the canal on the left to a tramroad which passed over Blisworth canal tunnel while it was still under construction. It had two 4 foot gauge tracks and was powered by horses. View looks North.
