The North Euston Hotel opened to guests in 1841 and a Transport Trust plaque by the entrance marks the period when it was a stop off point on the Euston - Fleetwood - Ardrossan - Glasgow route that preceded the railway over Shap and Beattock. A WD inscription in the stonework (bottom right of the picture) marks the period after the Glasgow traffic finished when it was used by the War Department before becoming a hotel again.
