Bowes Park

Bowes Park station, north London, the southernmost on the Hertford North Loop and the only one with an island platform, looking south on 21st November 2019. This is on the original GNR branch from Wood Green (now Alexandra Palace) to Enfield that opened in 1871 but Bowes Park was not added to the line until 1880. It was not until the second decade of the 20th Century that the line was extended from Enfield back to the main line at Stevenage to form the said Loop. In 1932, nearby Bounds Green station on the first stage of what is now the LUL Piccadilly Line's Cockfosters extension from Finsbury Park to Arnos Grove was opened and almost overnight Bowes Park lost three quarters of its traffic to the new 'tube' line. It is still one of the quietest stations on the GNR London Suburban system.
