Carberry Colliery Junction

The first junction on the Gifford branch, seen looking north towards Monktonhall Junction on 28 December 2019. The colliery branch fell sharply to the right. To the left is Whitecraig, a 1930s creation built round the miners' rows of Deantown which served Carberry pit. Why the new village didn't take the name Deantown isn't clear; Whitecraig is a house outside the village even now.
