The 1867 station at Bonnyrigg on the Esk Valley Railway was renamed Broomieknowe a year after opening, in deference to its larger and busier neighbour on the Peebles Loop (previously Bonnyrigg Road). No trace remains of the Esk Valley station, which closed in 1951, since when the area has been cleared, the cutting infilled and a large health centre built on the site. The only significant remnant of the Esk Valley route is this 40ft bridge parapet on the west side of Bonnyrigg High Street, beyond which lies an area of dense undergrowth occupying the short distance between the road and the sealed east portal of Broomieknowe Tunnel - see image 50510.
