Shanklin

Class 483 (ex-London Underground 1938 stock) just arrived from Ryde Pier Head at Shanklin station on 20th September 2014. This has been the terminus of the line since 1966 when the section on to Ventnor was closed (note abandoned platform on left), amid much local opposition. My friend, also called David and who accompanied me on this visit, is not really a railway enthusiast and he rather unflatteringly described these vintage trains as 'garden sheds on wheels'. That was him off the Christmas card list that year.
