Lancaster Power Station

The old power station at Lancaster, probably taken just after its closure in 1976. It drew water from the River Lune behind and was supplied with coal through the surviving link from Lancaster Castle but this closed with the power station. The sidings and coal hoppers were near the river bank and shunted by two fireless locomotives. See image 26538. The station itself was completely demolished after closure but the national grid sub-station in the foreground survived and made the national news in December 2015 when the River Lune flooded this area and cut power to the city. It has since been raised on a gantry for flood resilience. Unknown photographer.
