Corfe Castle

33202, with a Norden to Swanage train, approaching Corfe Castle station on the Swanage Railway, with the castle ruins on the hill behind, on 3rd May 2014. The class 33s were built for BR Southern Region between 1960 and 1962; no. 202 was one of those with a slightly narrower body for use on the Tonbridge to Hastings line that has several width-restricted tunnels. They were used alongside specially designed narrow diesel multiple units, the 'Hastings Sets', which remained in service until the line was electrified in 1988. For conventional electric trains to serve the line, the tracks through the tunnels were singled and re-sited in the centre.
