Black Rock

Volks Electric Railway car number 8 departing from the eastern terminus at Black Rock, on 21st June 2014. This 2ft. 8 and a half ins. gauge line along the seafront at Brighton in East Sussex is the world's first electric railway opened on 3rd August 1883 and is named after its engineer Magnus Volk (1851-1937) who was born and died in Brighton. A branch line, now lifted, previously diverged at Halfway and ran across Marina Drive into some workshops and where Magnus also had his office.
