This photograph was a publicity shot by the North British Locomotive Company. It was used in a commemorative book; North British Locomotive Company 1903-1953 50th Anniversary. The caption was 'Class Y.P. Locomotive (Indian State Railways) Completely assembled and protected against the passage, one of a shipment to India is hoisted on board ship at Stobcross Quay, Glasgow'. (Taken 1952.) The locomotive was being lifted by the Cowans, Sheldon & Co crane of 1931 which still stands. This 4-6-2 was one of a batch of 100 built at the Hyde Park Works [2nd] (Y for yard/metre gauge, P for passenger). Others of this modified Baldwin design were built in Germany and India. Two of the NBL locomotives survive - number 2001 'Janki' at Samastipur and 2508 at Kacheguda station, Hyderabad. In the background the Queen's Dock can be seen and further beyond the University of Glasgow (on the horizon). Does anyone know the name of the vessel in the Queen's Dock? The name appears to be 'Brothers ...'.
