Southern approach to the A6106 road bridge at Melville Gate in July 2012, more than 40 years after this section of the Waverley route had closed and with the first scheduled passenger services on the new Borders Railway still more than 3 years away. At this time the old railway route formed part of the Penicuik - Dalkeith Walkway, with the path beyond the bridge turning off to reach Old Dalkeith Road. Today trains on the Borders Line run through here, with Kings Gate Junction on the other side of the bridge. For the view north from the bridge itself on the same day see 39712.
