A view up to the top of Adit A2 the main access to the underground workings before the ventilation and lift shaft was completed. The triple-track rack-railway ascended a steep incline 1 in 7; there was space for road vehicles and pedestrians to the left. Imagine having to tackle this on foot after walking for ages all the way from the cutting face several kilometres away out under the sea.
