Burnfoothill was one of the Ayrshire hill mining villages associated with the Dalmellington Iron Works, located on the plateau above. This view looks to the Drumgrange Incline Head [2nd] (seen in the distant middle right) over the remains of the village in 2003. The site of the village of Lethanhill is the forest to its left. Off to the near right is the railway which ran north from the Drumgrange Incline Head with this portion running as far as the Kerse and Bowhill ironstone pits. It was a company village of which it was said there was only one way out of the village, down the Drumgrange Incline. The area has since been partly opencast mined and this location has been obliterated.
