Looking over the old north yard of the former Lady Victoria Colliery from the perimeter fence of what is now the National Mining Museum. The abandoned railway vehicle is a narrow gauge surface car once used to bring coal into the site via the Easthouses Tramway (see image 72286). The circular concrete structure is the thickener, effectively a settlement pond which operated in conjunction with the fines treatment plant immediately behind. The combination was used to recover coal dust from water used in the washing process. The resultant residue was then used to fire the collieries boilers.
