This is the huge Cefn viaduct, at Cefn-coed-y-Cymmer, on the Brecon & Merthyr/LNWR joint line from Merthyr to Pontsticill and the Heads of the Valleys line. The bridge was built for double track but carried only one track. Photographed in 2004, the station of Cefn Coed was just behind the camera but is now covered by housing. The line was part of the LNWR's very expensive drive, by the Heads of the Valleys, to reach Merthyr, this portion from Pant to Merthyr built jointly with the Brecon and Merthyr.
