The magnificent 'TS Duchess of Montrose' on the approach to Millport's Keppel Pier, a regular call on the daily service from Gourock to Campbeltown, in August 1961. The 'Montrose' appeared slightly less often than the 'Hamilton' and naturally it was always a matter of sibling rivalry during Millport summer holidays to be the first to identify correctly which Duchess was on the sailing, when first spotted in the distance. There were only small detail differences between the two vessels and, amongst the steamers seen on the Clyde in that era, their grace and style were without parallel. That was my youthful opinion at any rate, and it remains so nearly 60 years later!
