East Ham

Eastbound platform at East Ham, seen from a District Line train to Upminster, on 13th July 2021. This station was opened by the LT&SR in 1858 and that Company's motif can still be seen in the canopy support brackets. The station lost its main line trains in 1962 with the electrification of the now C2C lines, leaving two disused platforms but the station and line remained in BR ownership until 1969 when LT took over and Eastern Region totem signs were replaced by LU roundels. (East Ham was the birthplace in 1917 of the great Dame Vera Lynn who passed away at the age of 103 shortly after the 75th anniversary of VE Day in 2020.)
