On the north side of the Solway Firth, midway between Dumfries and Annan, a station was opened by the GD&C in 1848 to serve the village and parish of Ruthwell. The station was over a mile from the village itself, which resulted in the creation of the hamlet of Ruthwell Station (see image 19346). The station finally closed in 1965, following which it was converted to a private residence, seen here from alongside the B725 in May 2008.
