Despite being in a busy residential and business part of the London Borough of Islington, and with its station building on the corner of two main roads, one of which it takes its name from, Essex Road station, now part of the GN suburban system since 1976, is little used. It opened with the line as Essex Road in 1904, was renamed Canonbury & Essex Road in 1922 but the original name was restored in 1948. Despite its name, the entrance is actually situated on Canonbury Road, on the right. This view is on 13th November 2021.
