Essex Road, on the former Great Northern & City Railway from Finsbury Park to Moorgate, dating from 1904, is unusual in that passengers have to go DOWN from the platforms to the lifts before they can go up to the street. And as can be seen in this view looking down, on 13th November 2021, the stairs are on the steep side, especially when going UP and hardly suitable for people with reduced mobility. Probably explains why this station is so little used, which adds greatly to its rather spooky atmosphere.
