HTMS Iris seen at the Post Office Submarine Cable Depot which was located in Dalmuir (formerly the Platers Shed of Beardmore's shipyard). The depot was served by one of the more obscure works lines off Dalmuir Riverside station on the Lanarkshire and Dumbartonshire Railway. The Iris, the second cableship of that name, was built in 1940 by Swan, Hunter and Wigham Richardson. Sold by the Post Office in 1976. Note the famous Singer tower and factory in the background.
