Fairburn 2-6-4T 42274 at Polmadie on Friday 28th April 1967. Later that day, the locomotive would take the 5.03pm from Gourock to Glasgow Central, the final steam hauled service on the line. I have subsequently realised that the event had rather wider significance, at least for those of a certain mindset! As far as I know, it was the final occasion, in BR days at any rate, on which a steam locomotive from a Scottish shed worked a scheduled 'Scottish' passenger service. A number of Anglo-Scottish services were hauled by locomotives from south of the border later in 1967, but I believe that this was the last steam-hauled service that started and finished in Scotland.
