Fairburn 2-6-4T 42274 at Polmadie on Friday 28th April 1967. Later that day, the locomotive would take the 5.03pm from Gourock to Glasgow Central, the final steam hauled service on the line. As far as I know, it was in fact the final occasion, in BR days at leat, on which a Scottish-based steam locomotive worked a scheduled passenger service wholly within Scotland. It was commendable of Polmadie to get hold of the last remaining Scottish Fairburn for the purpose, but perhaps surprising that no attempt was made to clean the locomotive.
