Lancaster

This is the stone staircase, now sadly disused, that leads from Platform 6 at Lancaster up to the ticket hall and east side entrance. The top of the staircase is partitioned off but with a secured access door. The platform has not been used since the electric service to Morecambe and Heysham via Green Ayre was withdrawn in 1966, although freight trains from Lancaster Power Station could still use the line through the platform until the early 1970s WCML electrification altered the station track layout. Photographed during a supervised visit.
