Port Edgar

The view south from Port Edgar's western breakwater, looking towards South Queensferry, in 1999. It was a double track line here. One was still in place and the course of the second could be seen to the left. A branch ran off to the distant left to the North British's sleeper creosoting works. The whole harbour later became a naval base in both World Wars, the works branch being adapted for the base and two naval piers being provided. The first station here, which was on the western breakwater and had a connecting ferry to North Queensferry, was in operation between 1878 and 1890 and a second for the Great War opened in 1915. The naval base's Memorial hall/church is on the right.
