Edgware Road

Edgware Road, looking west, with a train of LU S7 stock waiting to depart with a Hammersmith & City Line service to Hammersmith on 10th January 2023. This station opened 160 years to the day earlier, with the first section of the Metropolitan Railway, and was rebuilt in 1925 in connection with a proposal to build a direct line from here to Finchley Road to allow Met trains from the Extension line to run to Paddington but this was never started. However, before that proposal was cancelled indicator boards showing country destinations and even Verney Junction (which the Metropolitan ceased serving in 1936) were installed here but were never needed.
