The Arbroath and Forfar Railway crossed Market Street/Station Road on the level at an angle on its approach to the Forfar terminus at Playfield. A locomotive shed was located in a small triangle of land between the railway and road on its south side. In this view the line was just beyond the wall on the right running to the new houses, where the shed was located, in the centre of this view. It became a branch after the line to Perth opened in 1848 and survived as a goods line until 1979.
