Grantshouse

This photograph is published in 'The Scottish Railway Scene 1973-2020' by John Kirk, published by Pen & Sword.

The caption reads: In August of 1988 I heard that a class 26 had come to grief at catch-points on one of the loops at Grantshouse. We set off down the A1 to see what had happened, but I did not expect to find this sight. 26 029 had not only derailed but had also toppled over. Recovery of the loco took some time. Electrification work is ongoing but HSTs are still the frontline traction. We were able to walk right up to the stricken loco; no doubt today the site would be cordoned off and spectators would not be welcome.
