Lancaster

Looking south over Lancaster and the River Lune in 2012. The West Coast Main Line crosses the river on Carlisle Bridge and Lancaster (Castle) station can be seen beyond. From Lancaster station two lines of trees can be seen forking left and right towards the river. That going left was the link to Lancaster Green Ayre station. To the right was the Glasson Dock branch. The old Midland route from Morecambe was on the south bank of the river and passed under Carlisle Bridge before curving over the river into Green Ayre station. See image 72974, a map of this location a century earlier.
