Alexandra Palace

Preserved 1961 Deltic no. 55009 (formerly D9009) passing Alexandra Palace station with a UK Railtours excursion from Kings Cross to York and Scarborough, at 08.10 on Saturday, 19th August 2023. This station was known as Wood Green until 1982; the original Alexandra Palace station, that almost became the terminus of a branch of the London Underground Northern Line, was much more conveniently-sited for the palace, alongside the palace walls at the top of the hill but closed in 1954 although not before over £1 million had been spent before 1939 converting the line that was never completed.
