The most notable relic of the Northumberland Central Railway (closed to all traffic in 1963) is Fontburn Viaduct, seen here looking south east in 2010. The 12 arch structure carried the single line over the River Font, a tributary of the Wansbeck. The 1870 viaduct lay roughly midway along the 13 mile branch between the junction with the Wansbeck Valley Railway to the south at Scotsgap and its northern terminus at Rothbury.
