Hindley South
Hindley South was on the GCR branch to Wigan Central. It opened as Strangeways and Hindley, later becoming Hindley and Platt Bridge and finally Hindley South but closed in 1964. These stone setts on the approach road to the old goods yard are a reminder of railway days. The passenger station was to the left of the road bridge but nothing remains of that. To the right of the bridge was Strangeways Junction, where chords to the Whelley Loop diverged left and right while the Wigan Central line continued straight ahead.
