Muirbeath Colliery Pits Nos 1 and 2

With the Firth of Forth in the background, the site of Muirbeath Colliery Pits Nos 1&2 (1894-1914) are on the left and the former West of Fife Mineral Railway was on the right. The colliery was served by a short branch from the Dunfermline direction which came off immediately west of a level crossing, as a result both the 'main line' and the colliery siding having level crossings. Hints of the colliery siding can be seen in the field to the right of the bing. Muirbeath was also known as Highholm, the name of the farm off to the right (where pits nos 3&4 were also located). The view looks west.
