Highgate

Archway Road entrance to Highgate station, LU Northern Line, completed and opened for trains in 1941 although the extension from what is now Archway to East Finchley had opened in 1939 and the incomplete station used as an air raid shelter from 1940. Seen from passing no. 134 bus on 22nd April 2024. Deep in the cutting behind the trees is the abandoned High Level station that was rebuilt in the 1930s for the Alexandra Palace electrification, also as part of the Northern Line extension project, held in abeyance in 1939 and never completed after 1945, thereby wasting over £1 million in the process. It eventually closed in 1954.
