Looking east at Wigan Wallgate towards the large, red brick, street level station building that dates from 1896 and was the third Wallgate station. The first, 1849 to 1865, lay immediately east of the tunnel beyond these platforms and the second covering the intervening years was sited roughly where this picture was taken from. Present day Wigan serves the Headbolt Lane (Kirkby) and Southport lines to the west and Manchester via Bolton or Atherton to the east with a frequent service of trains. 195010 draws forward as empty stock to layover briefly before shuttling back to Manchester Victoria.
