Caledonian Road and Barnsbury

Bridge over Caledonian Road ('The Cally'), carrying the London Overground, seen from a No.19 bus heading south on 3rd February 2024. This section was opened by the East & West India Docks & Birmingham Junction Railway with its extension from Highbury & Islington to Camden Town (now Camden Road) in December 1850. The station now known as Caledonian Road & Barnsbury, on the embankment to the left of the bridge, opened in October 1852. The line was renamed the North London Railway in 1853, which must have been a relief. This was once the route of the much-lamented Broad Street to Richmond line that Beeching wanted to close.
