Southport

A Steamport Southport open day, with static exhibits in Southport station, on 11th September 1982. One exhibit was Stanier Black 5 4-6-0 44806, at that time named 'Magpie' after the TV show. Picture of Mr Steel in the Fireman's position taken by someone else. The preservation group operating Steamport was established in 1971, opening its doors to the public in 1974. The group, their stock and exhibits transferred to Preston Dock in 2000 to become the present day Ribble Steam Railway and celebrated their 50th anniversary in May 2024.
