Chingford [1st]

This bridge over King's Road carries the 1878 extension to the present day Chingford station (half a mile to the north on the left) from the site of the 1873 station (on right), seen through the front upstairs windows of a no. 212 bus about to pass underneath, in the rain at 14.35 on Monday, 28th October 2024. The 1873 station became a goods yard after the extension opened (originally to continue to High Beech but never completed) but the station buildings were not demolished until 1953 with the goods yard itself being closed in 1967. A modern housing estate now stands on the site.
