Dagenham East

Dagenham East, looking west from a train of LU S7 stock calling with a District Line service from Upminster to Richmond, at 14.30 on Tuesday, 5th November 2024. Originally opened by the LTSR in 1885 as simply Dagenham and renamed Dagenham East by the LMSR in 1949, the disused main line platforms (behind the fence) were closed in 1962 when the ex-LTSR system was electrified by BR Eastern Region. The station, however, remained in BR ownership until 1969 when it was transferred to London Transport with roundels replacing BR running-in boards and totem signs, as at all the stations on this section of the District Line apart from Barking and Upminster.
